Part One - Home Improvement Halloween Episodes

To put it simply, the Halloween episodes of sitcoms are a passion of mine. I’ve seen all of the good ones and I have four six-hour long taped VHS tapes to prove it. I can’t go on in detail about each of these shows in just one post since you would immediately stop reading, so I'll do them in parts. Part one? Home Improvement.

Ignoring the fact that Tim Allen is an adonis of a man (2023 UPDATE: yes he’s awful, but I was very attracted to him in 2013 when I first wrote this), these Halloween episodes are spectacular. All of them. The links are attached to the episode names below if you somehow can't remember how good they were and need to see for yourself. (To be completely honest, season three, seven and eight are the best ones, in my opinion.)

Season Two - The Haunting of The Taylor House

Season Three - Crazy For You

Season Six - I Was A Teenager Taylor

Season Seven - A Night To Dismember

Season Eight - Bewitched

Part Two - Roseanne

Part Three - Boy Meets World

Part Four - Sabrina, the Teenage Witch

Part Five - Dawson's Creek

The Urban Peasant

If you grew up in Canada in the nineties, please tell me that you remember this man. The Urban Peasant was a Canadian cooking show starring James Barber and it aired on CBC (and also aired in some states on TLC, I'm told). This was the first cooking show I'd ever seen (this was long before the Food Network) and I loved it dearly. Why? I don't know, maybe 'cause this man was GENTLE AS HELL! And so likable. And everything he made looked deLIGHTful.

I was thinking about him the other day when I saw a man on the street who looked exactly like him, so when I got home I Googled him and found his website. A ton of his recipes can be found there, as well as a DVD of some of the episodes. Can't believe that I forgot about this food pioneer. What a fine man.

(Also, that man on the street was not James Barber. The internet tells me he's quite dead.)

Breaking Bad

Made me laugh.

Breaking Bad Cupcakes

Come Sunday, I will be making these cupcakes. Crushed up bits of Jolly Rancher candies are used as the meth in this recipe - and honestly, that makes me a little nervous (aren't Jolly Ranchers, like, the hardest of all hard candy? How is that tasty?), so I might substitute those with crushed up blue M&Ms or blue sprinkles or even blue cotton candy. Nevertheless, such a good idea for a treat during the series finale. What else could you indulge in? Maybe some Dimple Pinch, if you're hardcore.

Anyway, just a few ideas to spice up the finale. The show's been great and obviously it'll be missed. Also, did you happen to see RJ Mitte being a babe last month? Yikes. I'm pretty into it.

Anna Gunn - NY Times Article

This article is a few weeks old, but still relevant - especially as the series comes to a close on Sunday.

It's basically about the reaction and treatment of her, very fictional, character Skyler White. Definitely a good read, whether you watch the show or not.

Conan Breaking Bad Episode

Conan had a full Breaking Bad episode on Monday and you can watch the whole episode here.

The Mindy Project - Returns (!) Tonight on FOX

So happy it's back. But also - I'm gonna call it here and now that Tamra (Xosha Roquemore) is gonna be stellar this season. Woman's fantastic.

Fresh Prince - Jump On It

Will always love this clip. Makes my heart dance.

To Catch A Predator

No, no, this isn't a post about the resurgence of this beautiful show (God, how I wish that were the case). Unfortunately, I doubt it'll ever air again with new episodes, but such is life.

If you've never heard of the show when it came out, here's a brief description: "To Catch a Predator is an American television series that features hidden camera investigations by the television newsmagazine program Dateline NBC. It was devoted to impersonating underage people (generally ages 12–15) and detaining male adults who contacted them over the Internet for sexual liaisons. People were lured to meet with a decoy under the pretense of sexual contact and then confronted." - Wikipedia

Why am I posting this? I don't know, maybe you're particularly bored on this fine Tuesday afternoon? You need some kind of escape from doing any work? You somehow forgot how amazing this show was?

Anyway, I hope you've seen these because as a lot of people already know: they're fantastic. I can't even really know why I feel that way, but I just love it. Once I start watching these on YouTube, well... my day slowly slips away from me since I can watch for hours.

Click here to watch the Fortson, Georgia episode. Or here for the Southern California one. There are many more that you can definitely find them on YouTube.

Show You Should Be Watching: The League

EDIT NOTE: I don't follow, watch or understand anything about the NFL and nor do I care to.

That being said, The League is a fantastic show. Quick synopsis: "The series revolves around six friends who participate in a fantasy football league. The show follows the friends, who will do anything to win, while also dealing with a variety of situations that occur in their everyday lives." -Wikipedia

Why should you watch it? It's hilarious and perfect. How do you know if you'll like it? I don't know, genius - maybe watch an episode and see. I can't really think of any other show to compare it to, since good shows usually stand alone in their greatness. I first gave it a try 'cause I was on a silent Mark Duplass binge for awhile and wanted to see everything he's been apart of, and even after having gotten over that crush, this series still is in my top five of best stuff on television at the moment.  (Other stuff on that list? The Mindy Project (I know he's on that show as well, but I swear I'm over him.), Community, Girls, Bob's Burgers.) Give it a watch!

Sidenote: Every single thing that Rafi (Jason Mantzoukas) has ever said on this show has been a gem, Lord love him. The fourth season starts Wednesday September 4th at 10:30pm.
