The Best of December

by Liz Heather in Best of NYC, Personal

Christmas was really nice this year. I almost threw out my dollar store gawdy snow-lined garland that I’ve had for years because for a moment I thought it might look too trashy. But I waited a few days and realized nope - I love that tacky stuff. It reminds me of my childhood/80s Christmas decor so I kept it. And then that thought made me wonder why I was doubting it in the first place and realized that it’s my damn Instagram feed. My feed was trying to tell me that not only are my choices bad, but the Pinterest “chiq” ones were the right ones maybe? I know that people are saying that Instagram is giving off dying mall vibes right now and I really hope it’s true. There’s so much slop. It’s enough already. Anyway, here’s what went down last month.

  • I compiled the best tweets of the month over here.

  • I know Christmas is over, but I still stand by these great NYC related gifts.

  • I made a list of my favourites of 2025.

  • All right this is just a PSA if you live in New York City. You know how to have an OMNY card now? REGISTER IT. No one tells you that once you register it, you can access the unlimited 7-day plan again (in the same way that you could with a Metrocard). They don’t advertise this and it’s infuriating. I loathe OMNY, but please pass on this message because barely anyone knows that you’re supposed to register it if you want the benefits of ever using the unlimited option. You can register your card here.

  • I wrote about all the new years traditions that I follow each year.

  • I finished up Fall Fridays (Volume 10, Volume 11 and Volume 12).

  • I began Winter Wednesdays because I can’t physically not talk about what I do each week (Volume 1 and Volume 2 so far).

  • I went on Nathan’s podcast for the first time in a long time.

  • Still very much in love with my kitchen ring holder for when I’m baking.

The rest of this post can be read over here.

Summer Saturdays Vol. 8

by Liz Heather in Summer Saturdays

BAKING

Made a batch of blueberry breakfast cookies (with added protein powder) since we drove to Montreal this week.

COOKING

How hard is it to cook a dumpling? I feel like it’s one of those foods that always tastes better when someone else makes it for you. I think I really just want to eat the Mimi Cheng cheeseburger dumplings (available all July in NYC) and I’m deluding myself into thinking that I could make them.

CRAVING

This entire meal (that consists of lettuce wrap burgers, roasted broccoli, caprese and chive grilled potatoes).

Recipes from Jessica Merchant

DRINKING

Dreaming of having a cocktail in the lobby of the (finally) reopened Waldorf Astoria. Must happen soon.

EATING

Nutella on an oatmeal Dad’s Cookies. Nothing better.

EXPERIENCING

Pinterest wedding decor that makes me cringe. Not all of it is bad, but so much really is. I want to murder that one font. You know the one I mean. And if I could personally smash all of the existing mason jars on this planet - I happily would. MASON JARS ARE FOR JAM, fight me.

LISTENING

LOVING

Break ideas - I love it, especially in the summer.

SHOPPING

Got a .44 cent dill pickle flavoured hummus that somehow wasn’t terrible.

WATCHING

New season of The Summer I Turned Pretty just started and I can’t express how jacked I am about it. I will fight you if you think Conrad is even remotely good for Belly.

WEARING

There’s a good chance that I might just live in this Aritzia outfit for the rest of the summer.
