It’s common to complain about how long winter is, but it’s the perfect amount of time. My only complaint about this season was how little snowfall there was, but that’s my issue every year with any amount of snow - it’s never enough. That being said, did I make the most of the season? According to my winter list, no. Haha. But according to real life? It was wonderful.
4. Get the lobster bisque from The Soupman (the Seinfeld soup nazi) near Central Park (I haven’t eaten it in years and it’s incredible).
Fully forgot.
5. Find a snowmobile and ride it.
No snow = no snow mobiles, I don’t make the rules.
Okay, this list didn’t go very well with 1/5. But that’s okay. I suffer from a condition where you can delude yourself into thinking that your past failures don’t define you. Spring list coming tomorrow!
“Blessed is the season which engages the whole world in a conspiracy of love.”
— Hamilton Wright Mabie
I love that the first day of the winter is in the same week as Christmas, I always seem to forget that it is and it’s the nicest surprise every year. Here’s what I’d love to do this season.
Go skiing.
Eat ramen for the first time (I know, it’s insane this hasn’t happened).
Make some Christmas-y appetizers (cranberry grilled cheese, charcuterie wreath, etc.)
Get the lobster bisque from The Soupman (the Seinfeld soup nazi) near Central Park (I haven’t eaten it in years and it’s incredible).
Find a snowmobile and ride it. This one will be hard to do because I don’t know anyone with a snowmobile (mental note: make a resolution to befriend snowmobile types).
I’ll also watch some of these movies, obviously. And I hope you write a winter list of your own because no one is going to enjoy your life for you.
“I realize there’s something incredibly honest about trees in winter, how they’re experts at letting things go.”
— Jeffrey McDaniel
God, I love winter. I will be counting down the days until the first really big snowstorm, so in the meantime here’s what else I’d love to do this season.
Other than that, I’ll definitely watch some of these movies. As always, I encourage you to make a list of your own. And if you’re stuck on ideas, you can see my past winter lists below:
Is it insane that I still make these seasonal lists when the world is crumbling around us? Hope not! I think it’s so beneficial to come up with fun little ideas of things you’d like to do and then to actually do them. Yes, I pay bills and live an adult life, but if you aren’t having any small/silly adventures on a weekly basis, I think you’re living wrong…? Here’s what I want to do during this beautiful, snowy, perfect season that is finally upon us.
I would love to either ride a snowmobile or go skiing. Either one will be an acceptable snow transaction.
Eat a latke. I never have and I’d like to.
Waste away in Margaritaville. In Times Square. I know that this sounds so insanely lame, but I really want to and I refuse your judgement.
Visit the Transit Museum because I’ve never gone and it seems like my kinda place.
Eat moussaka. I never have and it seems like a good winter dish.
As always, I encourage you to create your own list because we’re all rotting away and it might be nice to try something new.
Remember when winter was here last and we were on full lockdown? And… here we are again? Maybe I shouldn’t have reminded you of that fact. But that being said, this winter list will be the most low maintenance list I’ve probably ever done because, well, that’s the law.
Build at least one snowman or snow-woman.
Arrange a decadent charcuterie board on New Year’s Eve.
If the city permits it, go ice skating.
Find a hill & sled down that hill.
Use up all of my winter stationary by sending out as much mail as my pen will allow me.
Wherever you are, I hope you’re staying warm and staying safe.
I love this season. That video above is one my mom took of our backyard last week and words can't express how happy I am that it's already started to snow in Canada. There's nothing lamer than a green Christmas. In any case, there are bunch of things I want to do this season.
Finally try whipped cream vodka in a hot chocolate.
Successfully make a souffle for the first time.
Take at least five bubble baths.
Literally just sit and watch the snow fall.
Mail out holiday cards.
There's nothing too wild or unique on that list, I realize, but I wanted some simple and easy things that I can fully enjoy since I'm fully in Christmas mode at the moment. Happy first day of winter!
Everyone keeps telling me that this is going to be a mild winter, so I'm going to try as hard as possible to make that not so. Ya know, with my mind. So we shall see.
What will I do this winter? Oh, I don't know - maybe a little of this, a little of that. JUST KIDDING HERE'S THE LIST.
FINALLY try to make cauliflower crust for a pizza. I've been wanting to do this forever and now that I have an oven and a pizza pan, I have no more excuses not to make one.
Visit the Martha Stewart Café in Chelsea. It opened in March and I still haven't gone, which makes zero sense since I whole-heartedly support this woman.
Finally visit Fraunces Tavern, the city's oldest building. I've been meaning to go here for years, I gotta get on this.
Make homemade vanilla extract. I didn't even know you could do this until recently, definitely have to attempt it.
Eat a By Chloe vegan burger. I keep seeing these open up around the city and I'm constantly told that they're as good as regular burgers, so I will eat one and tell you if people are lying.
