Krampus

by Liz Heather in Movies

That image above is the only thing I saw about the movie Krampus before seeing it earlier this week. And honestly, I should do that with movies from now on - go in completely unaffected by any kind of trailer, review or ad. Every single trailer on earth these days shows way too much and I can't stand that. Give me a little taste! That's all I want!

In any case, the movie was great. The ending sucked and was the worst part of the whole movie, but I can't really be mad at that. It just felt like the last fifteen minutes were very... studio-encouraged (that's the best way I can think to put it). And that's fine since the movie as a whole was great. Just a fun time. And maybe this is a dumb thing to note, but my favourite parts were the scenes shot out in the snow. They're gorgeously done and the blizzard throughout the whole movie just made me seethe with envy. See it! Not with kids, but see it!

Cuddle Clones

This toy company makes custom plush-toy replicas of pets from photos sent in by their clients. Ummm, this is one of the greatest ideas I've heard in awhile. The only downside is the price - I'm not sure why they're $249 per pet, but I'm assuming that a lot of work goes into each one.

Eleven Madison Park Team Opening Fast Casual Spot

by Liz Heather in Food

The owners behind Eleven Madison Park* (Daniel Humm and Will Guidara) have announced to the Wall Street Journal that their next project will be a "fast casual eatery called Made Nice, opening in the Flatiron at some point next year." Unlike a meal at their fancy-as-hell tasting menu-only restaurant (which goes for about $300 per person) the new eatery will offer meals in the $10 to $15 range (UMMM, that's insane/great). And there will definitely be hints of the mothership at Made Nice, which will have EMP sous chef Danny DiStefano in the kitchen.

CANNOT WAIT FOR THIS.

*If you've not heard  of Eleven Madison Park, it's one of the highest rated restaurants in New York City and extensively out of my budget range BUT I intend to visit one day and report back to you on how amazing it was.

10 Christmas Activities In NYC

by Liz Heather in Best of NYC, Events

Are you looking for things to do to celebrate the season in New York City? Look no further, baby. These are a few of my favourite things to do in December in NYC.

1. The Holiday Train Show

2. Take a photo with the accurate-looking, old timey Santa at Macy’s, The Plaza or The Queens Center Mall.

3. Eat at The Plaza Food Hall (specifically for their Lady M outpost). Kids might enjoy the Rawther Fancy Teas with Santa, an hour-long tea party in the Eloise Shop (dates/details through the link).

4. Eat the frozen hot chocolate at Serendipity 3 or if you hate waiting in line, they also sell take-home versions that you can make at home.

5. See The Rockettes, finally.

6. Visit the Christmas markets at The Union Square Holiday Market, The Bryant Park Winter Village, and The Columbus Circle Holiday Market.

7. Visit the best Little Italy in this town, Arthur Avenue in the Bronx

8. Go ice skating in Central Park.

9. Holiday Train Show at Grand Central (yes, there are two train shows on this list - but this one is free and smaller than #1).

10. See The Phantom of the Opera before it’s gone forever.
