Fact of the Day

by Liz Heather in

When you can’t sleep on your first night in a new place, your brain is trying to protect you. Many animals sleep with only half their brain, while the other half stays alert to possible dangers. It’s called the ‘first night effect’ in humans, because our bodies put us in a strange, half-asleep/half-awake state the first time we sleep in an unfamiliar environment.

The Hours

So many things are great about this movie and if you haven't seen it, pleasepleaseplease remedy that. Ed Harris has arguably the best scene in any movie ever (the one by the window near the end of the film) and I'm not overselling that. Philip Glass kills it with the soundtrack in ways that I didn't know were possible. And once you get over Nicole Kidman's stupid nose, it's actually an amazing movie.

UberYACHT

Uber, the online transportation network company, has already brought us cars, boats and helicopters to help with getting from A to B and now it's turning its hand to luxury vessels.
UberYACHT launches in Dubai this week, allowing residents to access a deluxe yacht party through their Uber app.

Food, drink, resident DJs and views of the city's iconic shoreline come with the ride (at a cost of $82) for those who request their spot using the app 48 hours before the ship sets sail.

Uber, which was founded in 2009, has often dabbled outside the world of cars, offering boat rides across the Bosphorus in Istanbul (UberBOAT) and helicopter trips through California's Coachella Valley (UberCHOPPER).

Somebody take me to Dubai, please.

Joey & Pacey

I’m fairly certain that you don’t have to even be a Dawson’s Creek fan to fully appreciate Joey & Pacey as a couple. Really. If you’ve never seen the show and you’ve been curious - please just watch the third season. It’s the season that leads up to them getting together and it… is… amazing. I re-watch it every few years and I still get chills from it. It’s just perfect television.

You can watch it on Hulu if you’re in the States.

We’re so caught up in trying to do everything, experience all the essential things, not miss out on anything important…We can’t read all the good books, watch all the good films, go to all the best cities in the world, try all the best restaurants, meet all the great people…Life is better when we don’t try to do everything. Learn to enjoy the slice of life you experience, and life turns out to be wonderful.
