Grace Hair Design & Beauty Parlour

by Liz Heather in Beauty

4646 Heritage Hills in Mississauga, Ontario

4646 Heritage Hills in Mississauga, Ontario

The only reason to go here is to get your eyebrows threaded. It's $4 and it's done perfectly every single time. I've been going here for roughly thirteen years now and whenever I'm in town visiting my parents, I get them threaded. I will purposely wait and not get it done anywhere in New York, since I know they'll do it exactly the way I want it done here.

And when you go, if you have a specific request (like "keep it as thick as you can" or "I want a higher arch"), then make sure to tell them otherwise they'll do what they want.

The place is usually rammed with people since they're so popular and good, but the most I've ever waited was around twenty-five minutes or so.

You can find their hours here (they're closed on Tuesdays), and they're less busy in the earlier hours of the day. Love this place so much.

Edison's Ghost Machine

by Liz Heather in Links

Words can't express how incredibly proud I am to know and love the woman, Jennifer Faylor, who penned this book of poetry. I've spoken of her before and I likely will again.

I had the pleasure of previewing Edison's Ghost Machine a few months ago and was startled by the fact that I think I may actually consider myself a poetry fan now. Who knew it could happen? Not only is it beautifully written and memorably poignant - but if you and I have any similar tastes at all, then you'll absolutely feel as strongly as I do about it.

A full review of this book will be the subject of a future post - I'm only mentioning it to you now since it recently became published and available for your fine eyes. You can get a copy on Amazon and there's no reason in hell you shouldn't read it.

Hazelnut Gelato at Whole Foods

by Liz Heather in Food

I will always say yes to seeing a dessert menu at the end of a meal MAINLY because I have to do a once-over and make sure there isn't any hazelnut gelato listed. If you haven't had it before... that's a problem. Especially if you give any kind of a shit about Nutella, as most do.

Whole Foods has a gelato section and nine times out of ten, they have this flavour. I advise you to eat it if you have any kind of decency within you.

Trader Joe's Curried White Chicken Deli Salad

With the exception of all their tea tree products, this is my absolute favourite thing at Trader Joe's. As you already know, I love any kind of chicken that gets curried. But this one? Best I've ever had. Every time I buy some, I have such lofty ideas about what I'm gonna do with it. Am I gonna put it in an open-faced sandwich? Maybe a regular sandwich? PERHAPS A WRAP OF SORTS? And these ideas never come to fruition. What does end up happening? I get a fork and go to town. Usually within an hour of having it sit, lonely, in my refrigerator. It's so fucking tasty.

I gave this book to my thirteen year old niece and if I ever give this book as a gift to someone again, I’ll say the exact same thing on the front page. THE LAST CHAPTER IS SO UNNECESSARY. And maybe this is rude/bold/ignorant/silly of me to encourage, but this is my blog, not yours. So back off.

Why do I feel so strongly about this? Oh, I don’t know. Maybe because,

“God, I wish you could have been there.”

is the greatest final line OF ALL TIME.
